Yes, art can seem to be expensive, but let's break that starving artist myth...artists have to make a living, and the cost is relevant to the time and expense it takes to create an artwork.
Collecting art can be such a joy knowing you are helping the local artist community to thrive and providing a livelihood to each artist you support.
Art collectors understand how important this is to every artist you buy from. Your purchase has a massive flow on effect.
Those artists can stay in business and continue to create more art and products.
Unique art gives you the chance to step away from mass-produced art you would find filling the aisles of Kmart or Target.
Buying original art helps you move towards individual expression and find your style.
You become a steward of history. Your original artwork will be viewed and enjoyed by generations to come.
It is an investment of the present day and readying it for the future.
Art collecting allows you to follow the career of an artist you feel a strong kinship. As the artist grows, so do you.
My own artwork is continually growing and developing. I paint travel art and it is evolving all the time with each piece.
I'm an artist, but love to collect works by other artists too. Walking into a gallery or viewing art pieces online is so exciting because you never know just what is around the corner.
It can be a life-changing art piece.
Art collecting is just like any other hobby. It can provide a sense of community where you can chat with other collectors about the artists they support or like, upcoming artworks, new collections or exhibitions.
Art collectors love discussing their latest finds and promoting their new Artists' friends.
Unlike many purchases, art just gets more valuable over time.
Each artwork comes with a story. When you collect art, you get the back story on how the artwork 'became'.
It can be based on emotions, memories, history or even the knowledge of cultures or traditions of that piece and the subject matter.
My own work is inspired by exotic destinations, so each piece tells of that destination or location. The view, smells, emotions or connections that were experienced, and then created into artwork.
Investing in one or two original artworks placed on their own can look amazing. I love a great feature wall myself. Read my other blog about creating a feature wall.
A painting on its own can command a room...it becomes a focal point, mood enhancer and fantastic conversation starter.
A collection of artworks together on a wall provides a sense of awe when you walk into the room.
Can you imagine waking up to that each day?
If becoming an art collector seems intimidating, it needn't be.
Most artists and galleries offer lower priced items such as prints, postcards, and miniatures as a great starting point.
Perfect places where artists hang out now are Instagram and Facebook.
As we know now with Covid, fine artists like many other genre artists, have pivoted and now utilise social media and/or have website based galleries. I sell my art that way.

You'll find some very well know artists as well as discover new unknown artists just starting.
If you have any questions or comments, pop them down below. I'd love to chat.
Have a great day and happy hunting! I hope you find some amazing art to start your collections off.
Warm wishes,
Danielle
